Frequently Asked Questions

How many lessons do I need?
We advise that NEW drivers enroll in PLAN GLP which covers every aspect of driving fundamentals as approved by ICBC. Remember, in order to develop proper driving skills, those habits have to be re-enforced with repetition and practice. Practice should begin immediately after obtaining the learners' license and parents/coaches should take an active roll. DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS AND ATTITUDE DEPENDS GREATLY ON YOUR PARTICIPATION. Once formal training has begun, take every opportunity to practice between lessons what you have learned. Remember, the skills you learn now will be used for the rest of your life. If these skills are practiced they will effectively develop safe driving HABITS.

How often are the lessons and how long does a course take to complete?
Generally, 1 or 2 lessons are given per week, or according to the student's availability. Each lesson is a minimum of one and a half hour (the student will drive for the full lesson) and the driving course takes approx. 4 to 8 weeks to complete.

Can I use the driving school vehicle for the road test?
All students who have completed 2 or more lessons may use the school vehicle, AT NO EXTRA COST, for the road test but only if the student has demonstrated their driving competency.

Where do I get picked up?
Anywhere in the major KELOWNA region, at no extra charge.

What regulations has the INSURANCE CORPORATION OF BC set?
As a NEW DRIVER, it is in your best interest to receive as much driving practice as possible before your road test. A learner's license is valid for TWO YEARS and all new drivers have a ONE YEAR waiting period before a road test can be booked; allowing new drivers the opportunity to practice their driving skills.

Novice drivers who wish to reduce their waiting period by SIX MONTHS are required to take the mandatory "GRADUATED LICENSING PROGRAM." (GLP) Novice drivers must complete a minimum of thirty hours of driving experience before scheduling an appointment for the Road Test. A Driver Experience Log Declaration must be submitted at the time of taking the Road Test.
